After starting as a laborer and working his way up to Construction Foreman over 35 years, a series of neck injuries required him to have a neck fusion surgery.  Following the surgery, he was no longer able to do the physical manual labor required by his job and was terminated.  A judge found him to be permanently and totally disabled ordering him to be paid weekly for the rest of his life.  After the decision, the parties were able to reach a lump-sum settlement of $900,000 instead of the weekly checks.
